Player Two, are you ready? Fans of Ernest Cline's "Ready Player One" novel rejoice! A sequel is coming, and it's coming in just a short four months! A release date of November 24th, 2020 has been put on the schedule. While many of us could use some more books during quarantine, we'll have to wait a bit longer to get our hands on this book.|
For those somehow unfamiliar with this story, "Ready Player One" is set in a world that's ravaged with poverty and just about everyone spends their time in a Virtual Reality world. To make things interesting, the creator of the "Oasis" (the main virtual world everyone lives in) passes away leaving his huge fortune to someone who can crack a long set of puzzles and clues left behind in his will. While the novel spent almost two full years in the New York Time's Best Sellers list, a movie wasn't made until 2018 by none other than Steven Spielberg. With said movie scoring over half a billion dollars in the box office, you can bet a screen version of this novel is forthcoming.
That said, there are some fairly big differences between the book and the movie, and it is said this new book will be a direct follow-up of the original book. It's hard to say how that will all fit together, but I'm certainly looking forward to it! The original book is fantastic, and while the movie is different, it is fantastic in its own way. I recommend both. If you'd like to give them a read or a watch, here you have some links to them:
JoseQ's Look at this Thing
The first book is one of my all-time favorites, and I'm definitely re-reading (re-listening!) to it very soon. The audiobook on audible is read by no other than Wil Wheaton of Star Trek fame. I only listen to audiobooks in the car, and it's so good it made me stay in the car well past my arrivals. If you're a fan of sci-fi, video games, or even the 80s, this book is filled with stuff for you. Very much looking forward to Ready Player Two!
